A southern loop from Murau to Stadl an der Mur which can be used as part of a much longer route when travelling The Sölk Pass or heading across to Nockalmstrasse for example.
The roads are a mixture of sweeping curves and long fairly straight sections passing through a few villages along the way. Basically valley roads passing around the smaller mountains at the eastern end of the Alps.
Being the valleys you can expect farm traffic at times but generally the roads are fairly quiet. At the time writing the road surface varies considerably from very good to poor. So poor in places that I would expect remedial work to be taking place any time soon.
You should also be aware that some sections have some serious undulations which when rounding curves at speed can test your suspension somewhat.
Beautiful scenery adds to the experience.
* Stay on the L62 a bit further rather than turn off on the L63 and you can find an interesting route on small mountain roads that will take you across to teh southern end of Nockalmstrasse.
I have attached a video of the route which is cut short a little due to Bug Splatter on the camera lens.
this is a very nice road to drive and would advice everyone to do it
This is closed circuit route, enter based on the closest entry point to you.
This a closed circuit, enter on it from the closest point based on your location and enjoy a 4 hour ride covering cities, country villages, twisty roads, mountain road and nice straights.
Note that there is a 6€ daily toll in Gerlos pass, if you like it I recommend getting the yearly ticket for 44€.
Make sure to respect the speed limits when entering urban/village areas as on average you will have 1-2 encounters.
Beautiful Carnia route
Österrike. Landsbygd. Inga höga bergspass men otroligt vackert. Speciellt vid Traunsjön!
The Villach Alpine Road is a 16.5 km long panoramic road from Villach-Möltschach (550 m) up on the Dobratsch Mountain (only up to the restaurant Rosstratte at 1,732 m). It has 7 hairpin bends and 116 curves. It offers special rests with perfect panorama and for bikers reserved parking places and biker safes for helmets etc. But you'll have to pay a toll to ride it.
The Gerlos Alpine Road is a winding road on the Gerlos Pass
and at the Krimml Waterfalls with a very beauitiful landscape.
On the top of the pass you'll find the marvellous landscape of
the high moors (nature-conservation area) and an perfect view to the
Krimml Waterfalls and into the Krimml Achen Valley.
An on top it is very biker friendly:
- "Bikers' Point" on the "Wasserfallblick" parking area (1,543m) with
information of routes and accommodation
- preferential parking areas reserved for motorcycles
next to the entrance to the Krimml Waterfalls and
the Water Wonder World with "Bikers' Safes" for intermediate
safe keeping of equipment not required
The Spisser Landstraße is the main route up to Samnaun. Predominantly in Austria it does come to the Swiss Border near Samnaun. On the whole the road is a joy to ride with a good surface. Samnaun is a duty free area and Petrol is cheaper than in Austria. Unfortunately some people overfill their tanks and deposit any savings they have made on the road surface under braking on the way down so you have to be aware. The attached video is as bad as I have ever seen it. Also being Duty Free and in Switzerland, Duty Free allowances apply as you enter Austria as Switzerland is not in the EU. Often the Border Crossing is unmanned but that doesn't mean you are safe as there are frequent mobile custom checks further down the mountain so don't be tempted to overdo the cigarettes.
The B185 from Nauders in Austria to Martina literally just over the Swiss Border.
A little under 8km of nice scenery and a mixture of straights, curves and hairpins. All in all the road surface is very good. Often overlooked by travellers who continue on the B180 in Austria or the Swiss 27 in the valley below. For that reason traffic is normally light.
Excellent round trip. Sudelfeld pass is a little spoilt by 60kph limit and paranoia of patrol cars, never actually seen any up there. Still, some excellent corners and great surface, take care, hairpins pop up. Take it easy once on the narrow route to oberaudorf. Then head to Austria/Kufstein. The road out of here towards Thiersee/wacht is great, taking you back to where you started.
Kurztrip in das Mühlviertel
Very good road to Kalte Kuchl or Mariazell
Many smile on his face - you must go there and back, there and back
very nice road from Reichenau an der Rax to KalteKuchl with wonderful possibilities for swimming in the river
from Grein go UP is bether
Great route!
Very nice road around Castle Forchtenstein and very nice relax park in Schwarzenbach.
Great ride between Eisenstadt and Stotzing. Little traffic.
Wunderschöne Tour über den Brenner über das Würzjoch mitten durch die Dolomiten und wieder retour.......
Great road with mid-fast corners along Slovenien border and very technical end through Loiblpass.
A nice fast 1hour blast after business.
Super Strecke!
