Starting at Invercargill, it is mostly a boring 3 hour drive until you approach Kingston - Lake Waipapa - Frankton. There can be some traffic, but it is usually light. The devils staircase by the lake is a local legend. Very twisty but limited opportunities to overtake. Nice scenery in this area as well, with places to stop and look.
