A44 : Evesham - Moreton-on-Marsh (Fish Hill)

West Midlands > Verenigd Koninkrijk > Europa
Juli 30, 2008 - 4 ster route classificatie Motorritten3.9

This is a very nice stretch of the A44 with a good mix of most things, but it also has one very special highlight which earns it my 5-star rating - in the middle lies Fish Hill, possibly the nearest thing to knee-down heaven in the UK?

Imagine this... you see a warning sign for a left hand bend. You look ahead and left, and rising across the valley in front of you lies a long, wide, totally visible, 160 degree, shellgripped, constant-radius bend sent by the god of biking himself. You instantly KNOW you can achieve GP angles of lean on this bend, no matter what youre riding... Set your speed, lean in, hold forever... Sublime! Then another long bend back round to the right... and another up to the left... ooooh heaven :-)

Make sure you do the road from Evesham to Moreton-in-Marsh so that you take it uphill - rather more intimidating going the other way on the brakes!

Enjoy... :-)))

The Elan Valley ( Elan Village - Devils Bridge )

Mid Wales > Verenigd Koninkrijk > Europa

No sound is here save the stream that shrills and now and then a cry of faint wailing when the Kite comes sailing over the crags- William Lisle Bowles, ˜Coombe-Ellen 1798 Fantastic weather and good company - What more could a biker ask for? More roads like these maybe? I live in hope. This is the Elan Valley in the very heart of Wales Land Of My Fathers. This 25 mile route is from the Elan Valley Visitor Centre just South West of Rhayader to Devils Bridge which is also worth a visit and is a popular stop for bikers and their contented pillions. Leave Elan visitor centre after a rather tasty sausage sandwich and follow the signs for "Aberystwyth via mountain road". You take in the Claerwen, Caban Coch, Garreg Ddu, Penygarreg, and Craig Goch Resevoirs - which are all quite impressive 19th century works of engineering - on your way along a winding twisting tarmac ribbon of excitement. This road will have your senses reeling and wondering in disbelief as to why anyone would build a road through such a place. Maybe the disused quarries are a clue to this step back in time. It's a great scenic route and one of my favourite places in Wales. It makes me proud to be Welsh and proud to be a biker 'there is no other way to enjoy it other than with two wheels and a few mates. Not a fast route but very scenic. Enjoy the snaps.

A483 : Llandrindod Wells - Newtown

A really good stretch of twisty tarmac which begins by the A44 at one end. Not much in the way of spectacular scenary but a great blast and some good corners shouldn't disappoint.

B3327 / A3055 : Wroxall - Ventnor - Chale)

Mountain hairpins in the UK? Oh yes...

This route is a real mix and quite a challenge. The ends are both nice rural/coastal roads but in between there are some tight and twisty tree-lined roads and a series of murderously tight and steeply inclined downhill hairpins on the way through the upper reaches of Ventnor. Not one for speeding this one!

A3055 : Freshwater - Niton (Military Rd)

South East England and Lo... > Verenigd Koninkrijk > Europa
Juli 15, 2005 - 4 ster route classificatie Motorritten3.6

Best biking rd on island Road surface poor(exciting)but dont let that put you off this is a great road with spectacular views fast straights and almost every type of bend. Also some nice beaches tucked away below the ciffs if you need to cool off calm down etc.. However there are alot of farms and hazards you need to be aware of.Id recommend a recon lap first to get your bearings. Its worth it. There are car parks both ends. The one in freshwater you cant miss. The one near Niton is a bit harder to find but a local meeting place. If your coming up from Niton its on your left just as the road starts heading down hill.If your coming from Freshwater go over the roundabout at Blackgang chine and follow the sweeping righthander when the road turns left he park is on your right. Enjoy
